Many families want to keep relatives in need of care in their own homes for as long as possible, but…
Which activities belong to household-related services of a mini-job?
What the blog is about:
- In the case of a mini-job, only household-related services can be registered on behalf of private employers
- Household-related services are activities that are usually performed by persons of the own household
- With quitt, you can easily register and manage household-related services on a mini-job basis
Private employers of a mini-job
Private employers of mini-jobs, such as domestic help, nannies, gardeners, etc., are supported by the state, not least to counteract the high rate of undeclared work in private households. Private individuals therefore have significantly lower costs than commercial employers of a mini-job. The activities that can be registered privately are thus limited to so-called household-related services.
In addition, a tax benefit of 20% of the total employer costs (max. €510) is available to the private employer in the course of the annual income tax declaration.
What is included in the household-related services of a mini-job?
Your mini-jobber may perform all so-called household-related activities in the private household, even if they are a family member, as long as they do not live in the same household.
These are generally tasks that would otherwise be carried out by the household members themselves.
The following table provides examples of activities that qualify as household-related services:
| Category | Examples / Notes |
|---|---|
| Household chores | Cleaning, doing laundry, ironing, tidying up, cooking |
| Garden maintenance | Mowing the lawn, trimming hedges, removing leaves, planting in private gardens |
| Childcare | Supervising, playing, helping with homework (as long as it does not qualify as formal tutoring) |
| Senior care / daily assistance | Providing company, grocery shopping, accompanying to doctor’s appointments, walks |
| Pet care in the household | Feeding, walking, and grooming pets at the owner’s home |
| Winter service (private property) | Clearing snow and spreading grit on private paths and driveways |
| Errands and driving services | Running errands or driving for household members (e.g. pharmacy, post office, shopping) |
| Sign language interpretation for relatives | Support within the private household |
| House sitting / supervision | Looking after the house while the residents are away |
