quitt is a service for private employers of domestic helpers. This includes, among others, hiring cleaners, babysitters and nannies, gardeners or carers for the elderly.
quitt handles the entire administration and payroll of the private employment relationship, regardless of the salary level. This means quitt covers mini-jobs as well as midi-jobs, part-time and full-time employment.
Officially registering domestic helpers is not only required by law, but also brings many advantages for employers.
You create a legal and fair employment relationship with your domestic helper, benefit from tax advantages, are covered in case of workplace accidents and receive reimbursements for absences due to illness or pregnancy thanks to employer insurances.
Your domestic helper, in turn, contributes to society, has a right to paid vacation and is covered by social, pension and accident insurance.
Furthermore, undeclared work can lead to high fines and back payments of social security contributions for both sides. In the event of a workplace accident, a registered employment relationship must be proven, and customs authorities in Germany also carry out random checks.
The ideal time to register with quitt is before the start date of your private employment relationship, as registration with authorities and insurances takes at least 2 weeks.
However, you can also register your employment relationship retroactively for up to 4 weeks via quitt. Please note that the first salary can only be processed after we have registered your domestic helper with all authorities.
For hiring domestic helpers in a private household, you receive a tax reduction as part of your tax return.
For marginal employment in private households (mini-jobs), you are entitled to a rebate of 20% of your total employer costs, but no more than EUR 510 per year. You enter these costs in line 4 of the “Haushaltsnahe Aufwendungen” (household-related services) form.
For employment subject to social security contributions in a private household (midi-jobs and part-time or full-time jobs), you benefit from a tax reduction of up to EUR 4,000 per year. Employer costs must be entered in line 5 of the “Haushaltsnahe Aufwendungen” form.
In addition, 80% of childcare costs for children up to the age of 14 can be claimed for tax purposes: up to EUR 4,800 per child per year (from 2025). These expenses must be entered on page 3 of the “Anlage Kind” (child form).
Please note that for childcare provided by the same employee you can claim either childcare costs or household-related services, but not both.
quitt provides the necessary documents for applying for a tax refund.
