The result is the quitt Haushaltshilfen-Report 2026. Here, we present three of the most compelling findings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s what it\u2019s about<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What do domestic helper in Germany really earn?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Who are the people working in private households?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Why is undeclared work so widespread\u2014and what can be done about it?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The average wage is well above the minimum wage<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statutory minimum salary in Germany in 2026 is \u20ac13.90 per hour. The actual average salary, at \u20ac17.93 per hour, is significantly higher. Bavaria pays the most at \u20ac18.92, while Rhineland-Palatinate, Schleswig-Holstein, and Hamburg are at the lower end, with salaries about \u20ac1 below the national average.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The typical domestic worker is 46 years old, female, and German<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The typical domestic helper in Germany is 46 years old, female (86% women) and from Germany (53.7%). For many, this is not a side job: 47% work more than 20 hours per week in private households\u2014in roles ranging from housekeeping (35.1%) to childcare (33.6%) and senior care (13.1%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Undeclared work is structural\u2014not moral<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Perhaps the most surprising finding: Undeclared work does not come from bad intention, but from a combination of excessive taxes and bureaucratic hurdles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Particularly revealing is the mutual blame: 34.3% of employers say the domestic worker only wants to be paid in cash, while at the same time 34.6% of employees state that the employer suggested cash payment.
